ANOREXIA NERVOSA WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AS BULIMIA NERVOSA

There are two important diseases that have become very common among young people, especially women. Those are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa; which are completely different, but many people tend to think that anorexia and bulimia are the same because of the consequences that people with one of those diseases get.

Anorexia is an eating disorder which consists of maintaining a kind of normal weight by eating gradually very little portions of food until the person stops eating totally for whiles. As the National Institute of Mental Health (2011) suggests that many people with anorexia nervosa see themselves as overweight, even when they are clearly underweight. So eating, food, and weight control become obsessions because people with anorexia have an intense fear of gaining weight. There are many different reasons why people suffer this problem, but the most common is because those people want to achieve an “ideal body”, that most of the times are influenced by models and famous people. In fact there are some models that have died because of anorexia nervosa like Anna Carolina Reston who was just 21 year-old when she died in 2006.

Bulimia nervosa is another eating disorder which consists of binge-eating then the vomits all that food or by purging behaviors such as self-induced vomiting, abuse of laxatives, diuretics, etc. As the National Alliance of Mental Illnesses (2011) argues that binge eating is the rapid consumption of an unusually large amount of food in a short period of time, which is what happens with people who have this eating disorder. The precise reasons why people suffer bulimia nervosa is unknown but as NAMI (2011) claims there is some evidence that obesity in adolescence or familiar tendency toward obesity predisposes an individual to the development of the disorder. Among famous people there is a very young actress and singer who stated in the first months of this year to have suffered bulimia nervosa since she was 8 years old, she is Demi Lovato.

Anorexia nervosa is as bad as bulimia nervosa. Both eating disorders have terrible consequences which involve the sufferers and their families. But there is one thing those eating disorders have in common, which is that they are a serious diseases that need to be treated in order to be out of them. But more than just a treatment people with those eating disorders need the support of their family and relatives inasmuch as they are the ones who are very close to the people with the eating disorders.

In this century technology is a good tool that is very helpful for many different purposes such as, education, communication, etc. it means that technology makes people’s life easier in all senses by using the artifacts/machines created by humans like TVs, stereos, microwaves, and the most common machine, the computer which with the support of the internet makes easier the communication.

There is an important social network that is very common among people from different ages. This social network is Facebook. Facebook was created eight years ago by Mark Zuckerberg. In its first years Facebook was used by students of Harvard University, but it became to be expanded to all USA because the students started to add people from other universities. Nowadays days Facebook is used in 70 different countries by more than 600 millions of users with the purpose of being communicated.

Facebook has had some different usages through time, as it is said before Facebook was used to communicate students in Harvard University, but now the usage had turned. It means that the most important reason why people create their Facebook account is because it helps to communicate people in a easy and faster way. It refers that a person in Mexico can communicate easily with someone in China by having internet and their respective Facebook account. There are some other usages such as commercial purposes, educative, and so on.

There are people who make bad use of this social network and of the technology in general. In Facebook it is very common the misunderstandings of what someone writes in his/her wall and suddenly gossips are created. Also there is a problem that is very common with high school junior students in USA, teenegers do sexting, it consists on taking a picture of the teeneger, but completely naked, and send it as a sms with their cell phones, or in general people just take care of being texting all the time instead of enjoying their life with their friends, their family, with someone who can be really next to them.

Technology is very helpful nowadays; people just have to take care when and where that technological stuff is used. It means that if for example you have a Facebook account, a Twitter account, or just a social network, try to use it with people who are really far away of you in order to enjoy with the social networks and the technological stuff that people, and to enjoy personally people who you can give a huge every day.

Everybody has a story to say; now I am going to talk about mine. It is not spectacular, but it does not stop being important. I am Andrea Salas, best known as Andy. I am the third daughter of Juan Salas and Paty Castillo. My first brother was Marco he dead a long time ago, but he would be 23 years old. Next to Marco is Cristy who is 22 years old and she does not live with us because she is married. I am the next one and I am 20 years old and next to me is my little sister Karla, she is 16 years old.

When I was younger I used to go out with friends, those friends where my neighbors, my sisters and the grandchildren of some of my neighbors. We used to play soccer, fut-base, and different kind of games that involved play on the street. Also those games were played at night, we started at 7:00 p.m. and when we did not had classes we finished at 12:00 a.m. When I was in high school junior I liked to be in all the school activities that were done for holidays. I was always in every event with my friends, and sometimes my friends and I used to help teachers to plan the events, and maybe more than being helping, the environment that my friends and I created was very good.

Nowadays there is an important thing where I am focused on. This important thing is my studies and also my personal improvement. It does not mean that I just want to study all the day; I just do my best to get good scores in order not to fail any subject. Also I like to be with my friends, go out with them and getting fun but healthily. One more think that I love doing in my free time, is to bake cakes, and prepare desserts. I am not an expert, but I am learning by myself and that I like too much, because I know what I should improve or I should not do for the next time in some desserts. All of those things are not really important, but I know that they will help me a lot in the future for something.

There are two important plans I want to do in the next coming years. The first one is as student, but it leads some important aspects. I want to finish my major in time without failing a subject. This is in order to get a good job. But more than getting a good job I want to become independent and a good job can pay my needs. The second one and very important to me, is that I want to create a kind of campaign against bulimia and anorexia. This is because those diseases are problems that not all of the people know about. This mean, people have an idea about the meanings of the diseases, but they do not really know what the diseases imply. So the purpose of this campaign is to decrease the number of girls and boys with those eating disorders.

As it is seen, there are many things that involve a life story. My life story have had its bad and good things, each one of them has helped me to improve myself or simply to have experience on things that can make me feel better. My life is a little bit short but it is very important to me every little thing and every person that has arrived to there.

Sponge Bob cake

It was my last birthday and it was almost the end of the day when I received an amazing surprise from my sisters. This beautiful and unexpected gift was a cake in shape of Sponge Bob. He is a very famous cartoon and very common among children because of his dummy way to be and the main characteristics, a spongy yellow square with two big teeth, large smile, enormous blue eyes, and colossal lashes. The peculiar way he wears his square pants, his white shirt with the red tie and his black shoes with his with socks.

The shape of this cake was actually awesome because it was very real to the famous Sponge Bob. Sponge Bob in his square body has some waves that the cake also had. Every little detail Sponge Bob have, the cake also had. The blue ayes, the big lashes, his hands his feet with the black shoes and the white socks. It was not like a drawn, it means that the shape of the cake was touchable, it was easy to feel his hands, his square pants, his noise, everything. This is because the fondant (frosting) that was hard and while more time it was in the refrigerator, harder was the fondant. It was not a teeny cake, but it was not to very giant, it was kind of medium size like 60 centimeters from head to feet, but the cake was just from head to square pants.

The flavor of the cake was really delicious. It was a vanilla cake, very sweet and very tasty. The fondant I thought that was not going to have a special flavor, this is because I know that fondant is done with a mixture that I did not have sugar. So when I ate a little piece of fondant I liked it very much as if I were eating a candy. The fondant was very sweet like if I would have eaten a spoon of sugar. The combination of the cake and the fondant was very tasty, both were sweet but if they were eaten together it was difficult to feel that the cake was cloying as the fondant alone in enormous quantities.

This Sponge Bob cake was an unexpected gift, I just wanted to have a nice day with my family and friends, gifts are not important, the important thing is enjoy the day, which is what I think. It was night and I just wanted to rest. I was watching a movie in the living room when my older sister arrived with the Sponge Bob cake and I just stayed in shock, I walked to her and I took the cake to brought it to a table and I just were looking at the cake without listening to my sister until my mother arrived saying “what beautiful cake”. I did not get tired by saying thanks to my sisters; they know how much I love Sponge Bob. The only problem was that nobody wanted to eat the cake because of the perfect replica to the cartoon the cake was. As a result the cake was eaten the next day of my birthday.

There is a new and funny type of frosting that confectioneries are using nowadays, this is the fondant, that let confectioneries to create more different and attractive ways, than the conventional, to decorate cakes. And it does not matter if it is a chocolate cake or yellow cake, you just have to enjoy the cake and the moment, I did it with my beautiful and delicious Sponge Bob cake.
